OUR HISTORY
|
OUR PRINCIPLES
The Green Grocers is committed to the following principles:
1 Over 90% of our food and drink is organic and/or locally sourced. 2 The remainder is fair-trade or eco-friendly. 3 We aim for 70% of our fresh produce to be locally sourced. 4 We use some of our profits to fund fetes and events for the local community and other good causes. |
OUR SOURCING POLICY
The Green Grocers is committed to organic, local and ethical produce.
We never knowingly source products that use GM ingredients. Our sourcing policy is to chose organic and local first, then local, then organic. |
ORGANIC FOOD
The impact of industrial farming on the environment and animal welfare, on landscapes and wildlife, on food quality and safety, and on the cultural fabric of the nation is all too apparent. People are switching to organic food and local food as a result.
|
LOCAL FOOD
Food is travelling further than ever before, often hundreds of miles from where it was produced to where it is consumed. Family farms, local abattoirs, processing plants, local food distribution systems and small shops are all disappearing, unable to compete in today's global market.

FAIRTRADE
Fairtrade Labelling was created in the Netherlands in the late 1980s on coffee sourced from Mexico. Today, there are now 19 organisations including the Fairtrade Foundation, that run the international standard setting and monitoring body Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO).
